Where possible Karkalla Handmade swimwear is made with sustainable fabrics from world renowned brands

Solid colour swimwear fabrics are Recycled Vita fabric, an eco-sustainable techno-fabric made with regenerated ECONYL® Nylon yarn.

It has more than double the resistance to chlorine attacks, sun creams, and oils compared to competitor fabrics.

Fluoro solids are made from regenerated polyester thread from pre and post-consumer waste blended with spandex

Prints are sourced from small independent surface art designers and printed in small batches onto Recycled Vita fabric to reduce waste.

In order to reduce waste I get my swim fabrics printed in small batches by a company in Bali. I have worked hard to fine a printer who reflects my ethos of reducing the environmental impact of clothing production

The company uses transfer sublimation printing for polyester. Their water consumption is less than 2% of what is normally required compared to using screen printing or batik printing. Since they use such a small amount of water to begin with they don't create any waste water.

Printer inks are all water based and Eco Passport Certified by Oeko Tex, these inks are also biodegradable.

The digital printers have no leftover dyes or inks to clean up between jobs and the operators are not directly exposed to toxic inks.
